Korey "Kris" Smallwood
Writer/Director
Writer/director Korey "Kris" Smallwood is literally from everywhere. Kris spent the majority of his childhood globetrotting as a military dependent; his father was a soldier in the U.S. Army. As a result, a young Kris lived in Italy, Germany, Hawaii, and several states in the US. He showed a penchant for writing, photography, and music at an early age. He loved reading and spent much of his downtime enveloped in books, comics, and movies. His travels abroad only enriched his writing and photographic eye.
After graduating from Heidelberg American High School in Germany in June of 1995, Kris wanted to pursue freelance writing full time, but wasn’t sure how to go about it. He spent the next few years contemplating his future and honing his writing skills. This personal soul searching further developed his sense of communion with all kinds of people, and helped hone his growing love of film, music, and literature.
In the spring of 1998 Kris began to pursue higher education, and after some setbacks and a campus visit he settled on Fisk University, an HBCU in Nashville TN. Fisk changed everything, and the history, close camaraderie and family atmosphere helped Kris decide to give his dreams of being a filmmaker a solid chance. In 2002, he moved to Los Angeles and spent all his time learning his craft, filling his notebooks with story ideas, info picked from the brains of others in the industry, and business plans. Three years later the information in those notebooks would help form what became Precise Minds Inc.
The current project in production, slated for release in 2007, is a documentary on the worldwide AIDS pandemic entitled The Terrible Silence. The two business partners are also developing a feature length script about life on the campus of an historic black college.
Kyle Dixon
Co-Founder/VP of Production
Kyle Dixon is co-founder of Precise Minds Inc. A Nashville, TN native now residing in Chicago, he has been an educator in the Lutheran and public school system since graduating from Fisk University in 2001.
Various facets of media and popular culture from around the globe have intrigued Kyle since childhood. During his youth his mother piqued his interest in theatre, museums, and art, while his father introduced him to various forms of philosophy and music ranging from jazz to funk. Being exposed to their influences gave him an insight into how media is used to portray images that may or may not be truthful, especially when the subject is African-Americans.
Kyle and his fellow Fiskite Kris Smallwood have endeavored to create a production company that adheres to the ideal of providing cinema to those who crave substance, creativity, and entertainment all rolled into one, and to have fun while doing it.
